Thanks to Urban Planning Blog for bringing this to my attention:

the Rockefeller Foundation convened an exceptional group of urbanists--leading policy makers and government officials, finance experts, urban researchers, members of civil society organizations, and other innovators--for a Global Urban Summit at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center. This book shares their diverse perspectives, creative approaches, and urgent agenda for harnessing the vast opportunities of urbanization for a better world.

You can order a free copy of this book on the complex challenges facing us in the next few decades as the world population becomes more and more urban. It was picked as one of Planetizen's top 10 planning books for 2009.

The Mass Urbanization and 19.20.21 Project is an initiative to research and document the first 19 cities to reach 20 million inhabitants during the 21st century. The link is to a talk on this project showing a quick but interesting history of the growth of the world's cities. Media producer Jon Kamen then talks about some of the things they will be studying and sharing. Dig in for more info at their website: 192021.org
