I'm a visual learner

I don't usually post things like this, but this one struck a chord with me.

I'm a very visual person. If I hear a number, I have to visualize it in my mind. Once I see a number or a name in my mind's-eye or see it written or better yet write it myself, I'll remember it. I was a chemistry tutor and lab instructor for three years because chemistry is easy for me. I can visualize the molecules flying through space and reacting according to their electro-chemical shape. Physics, not so easy: I can always imagine the frictionless cube sliding down an incline and accelerating, but couldn't remember the formulas. Guess I should have written them out more often.

Isn't it maddening when you are about to explain something and you ask the other (non-designer) person if they have a pen and paper and they just say no and stand there doing nothing, waiting for you to keep talking? Get me a pen!! A stick! Finger paint! Anything!

Once I drew by scraping a key on the back of an envelope and then rubbing soil from a flower pot across the ridges to reveal my sketch.

A note to non-designers: we spend all day talking and thinking in sketches and diagrams. If you're going to hang out with designers, have paper and pens ready.
